I am often contacted by clients who wish to smarten up their garden to show off to prospective buyers / tenants without it costing the earth, so here is my list of things to do in the garden to show it off at its best. (in no particular order)
- Jet wash all hard surfaces, patios, paths and furniture
- Repair broken / damaged fence panels and treat with a preservative (darker shades look better on older panels
- Clear all debris, leaves and weeds from flower beds and apply a good mulch of bark chippings
- Replace any loose or missing patio pointing (the cement between the slabs)
- Prune and shape any overgrown shrubs
- Fill in any gaps in the borders with fairly inexpensive structural evergreen shrubs
- Brighten up rendered walls and raised borders with a fresh coat of paint
- Pot up your window boxes with some seasonal colour
- Keep the lawn mown and edges neat and tidy
- Clear away all that garden rubbish, old pots etc
Really there is not much in the way of expenditure if you wish to do these tasks yourself, only time. Every time I have carried out a little overhaul like this clients always wonder why they did not do it years ago, it makes a huge difference.
