Unless it's one of the attractive small leafed varieties get it removed as soon as possible. One of the major causes of fences collapsing and rotting is when it is covered in the broad leafed ivy. It traps the moisture, never letting the panels to dry out which aids to their quick and speedy demise. If you are carrying out this task yourself arm yourself with goggles, a good pair of gloves and cover up any exposedskin. Ivy is nasty stuff and different people react to it in different ways, when I was training at college one of my colleagues ended up in hospital through not taking pre-cautions. Be Aware!
